Israel says it allows Turkish aid into Gaza

17 June 2011 / TODAYSZAMAN.COM,
The Israeli military has authorized the transfer of medical supplies donated by Turkey into Gaza for use in hospitals in the coastal strip that is under an Israeli blockade, an Israeli statement said on Friday.

The medical supplies were donated by the Turkish Red Crescent (Kızılay) and the transfer to Gaza took place on Thursday as part of regular humanitarian activities conducted by Kızılay in coordination with the Israeli military's Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), said a statement from Israeli military, faxed to Today's Zaman on Friday.

The supplies entered Israel through the Allenby Bridge from Jordan and were sent through the Erez crossing into the Strip, the Jerusalem Post daily reported.

The statement also said the goods sent to Gaza “come from various organizations worldwide which choose to coordinate their aid efforts with Israel including official Turkish organizations that conduct their operations in coordination and according to the procedures.”
