Turkish PM discusses Mideast unrest with leaders

17 June 2011 / TODAYSZAMAN.COM,
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan discussed recent developments with Middle East leaders shortly after his re-election on Sunday.

According to the Anatolia news agency, diplomatic sources said the prime minister spoke over the phone with his Lebanese counterpart, Najib Mikati, with respect to violence in Syria, where nearly 1,500 civilians have been killed so far by Syrian authorities in a bid to crack down on the three-month uprising against the 11-year rule of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Erdoğan also had talks with Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal and Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh.
