Prosecutor examining video clip scandals that rocked MHP

9 May 2011 / TODAYSZAMAN.COM WITH WIRES,
The İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on Monday launched a preliminary investigation into recent scandals arising from video clips showing four Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) members in inappropriate relationships with women.

Prosecutor Ali Haydar is reportedly examining the video clips allegedly belonging to four MHP members. One of the videos shows Bülent Didinmez, responsible for local party branches, and İhsan Barutçu, a parliamentary nominee, having an affair with two young women in a hotel room.

Two other video clips concern two former deputy chairmen -- Recai Yıldırım and Metin Çobanoğlu -- who were seen in the video kissing women in a room and insulting right-wing and conservative voters, as well as Turkey's Alevi population. The clip was later followed by a second one, which showed Yıldırım and Çobanoğlu engaging in sexual relations with other women. The clip was posted online in early May.

Both men resigned from their posts as deputy chairmen after the video clip was circulated by a number of news websites in late April. Didinmez and Barutçu have also reportedly submitted their resignation to MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli.
