5 cargo company workers killed, 38 injured in Isparta bus crash

19 March 2011 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
Five people were killed and 38 injured when a bus carrying a cargo company’s employees overturned on the Isparta-Antalya highway on Friday morning.

Wet weather reportedly caused the bus, travelling towards Antalya at 7:45 a.m., to speed out of control around a bend and overturn. After skidding for 12 meters the bus was only able to stop after impact with a hillside. In a statement to news agencies on Friday, Antalya’s Assistant Governor Turan Eren said that nine ambulances and one air ambulance from Antalya as well as ambulances from Isparta and Burdur were used for the rescue operation.

Twenty-eight of the injured were transported to hospitals in Isparta, while eight were sent to Burdur and two to Antalya. The company’s employees were on their way to a work seminar.
