!f İstanbul unrolls 10th year with ‘live cinema’

February 17, 2011, Thursday/ 17:12:00

!f İstanbul, the city’s eagerly anticipated annual showcase of indie and arthouse films, unveils its 10th edition today.

The 10th !f İstanbul AFM International Independent Film Festival will run until Feb. 27 with screenings at three AFM theaters across İstanbul; Beyoğlu Fitaş, İstinye Park and the Caddebostan Cultural Center (CKM) as well as at Cinebonus Maçka G-Mall. A selection from this year’s lineup will travel to Ankara for a five-day run from March 2-6.

Festival goers will be presented with a novelty in the event’s first weekend when the fest’s Special Screenings program offers “Utopia in 4 Movements,” a bold new “live cinema” experience that examines the future of film. A groundbreaking film in which the director and musicians weave together images, sounds, words and the audience in search of a way to build a vision of the future, “Utopia in 4 Movements” will be shown Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the AFM Fitaş and Sunday at 7:30 p.m. AFM Caddebostan. The festival’s opening party will be held Friday at The Hall club in Beyoğlu, featuring a live set by Jim Stanton. (www.mybilet.com)
