Four detained after police raid at neonationalist news portal

14 February 2011 / TODAY'S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
İstanbul police detained four people on Monday in the wake of a search in the office of neonationalist odatv.com news portal as well as the houses of administrators of the news portal.

The search began early yesterday at the order of Zekeriya Öz, a specially-authorized prosecutor in the ongoing Ergenekon probe. Ergenekon is a clandestine criminal network accused of working to overthrow the government.

Initial reports said the search came upon rumors that confidential Ergenekon-related documents were being kept in the office of odatv.com. The news portal is better known for its pro-Ergenekon publications. Author Soner Yalçın, who is also the news portal’s owner, and the administrators -- Barış Terkoğlu, Ayhan Bozkurt and Barış Pehlivan -- were taken into custody.

Yalçın previously penned books about Ergenekon and its shadowy links with military officers. In his book, the author criticized prosecutors in the Ergenekon probe.
