Six people die in traffic accident Monday evening in Antalya

8 December 2010 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
Six people died when an automobile suddenly pulled into the road and was hit by oncoming traffic. The accident occurred in the evening hours near the town of Karaöz in Antalya province.

The truck loaded with wood and driven by Cengiz E. had been heading from Isparta in the direction of Antalya when it hit the car, driven by Şakir Ali Yıldırım. Yıldırım’s vehicle had been parked on the side of the road when it suddenly appeared directly in front of Cengiz E. The truck, with the car stuck and being dragged under it, was only able to come to a stop 40 meters down the road after turning over on the right-hand shoulder. All six passengers in the car, including two 1-year-old baby girls, were killed. Truck driver Cengiz E. sustained only minor injuries in the accident. Following treatment at a local hospital, he was taken to the Yeşilkaraman gendarmerie station to testify. Earlier that day, Şakir Ali Yıldırım reportedly received a police fine amounting to TL 130 for driving 104 kilometers per hour on a two-lane road in Isparta.
