Turkish festival in Texas

U.S. city of Houston hosted the fourth traditional "Turkish Cultures and Children's Festival" on Saturday.

More than 30,000 Americans visited the festival and had a chance to witness rich cultural heritage from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The Houston festival was attended by high level officials from both Turkey and the United States.

Among the visitors of the festival were Justice and Development (AK) Party deputies Ali Bayramoğlu and Orhan Erdem, Mayor of Yildirim town of the province of Bursa Özgen Keskin, Turkish Consul General in Houston Akil Öktem, representatives from the U.S. Congress Al Green and Sheila Jackson Lee and Mayor of Houston Annise Parker.

The festival included games for children, puppet shows, competitions and cultural activities. The festival also had an Ottoman tent, a model of the Sultanahmet Mosque, and samples from Turkish ceramics and carpets.

Visitors of the festival enjoyed Turkish traditional folk dances as they tasted samples from the Turkish cuisine, including kebaps, doner, baklava and Turkish delight as well as Turkish coffee.

The "Turkish Cultures and Children's Festival" is the fourth biggest festival of the State of Texas.
