The three-day summit’s program was promoted yesterday at a press conference. The IFS’s Consultative Committee chairman, Associate Professor Murat Yülek, told reporters that they expect up to 300 scholars both from in and outside Turkey to attend the summit. “Turkey was not a country much involved in the international finance system in the past. … There was nowhere we could talk about the past, present and future of the world’s financial system. We wanted to pioneer that,” he added, explaining why they decided to organize the event.
The summit will take place at Bahçeşehir University’s Beşiktaş campus and have around nine sessions. It is expected that the summit will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and will also be attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan, Minister of Finance Mehmet Şimşek, Central Bank Governor Durmuş Yılmaz, Capital Markets Board (SPK) Chairman Vedat Akgiray, Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) Chairman Tevfik Bilgin and İstanbul Stock Exchange (İMKB) President Hüseyin Erkan, who will address the audience. Among the other speakers will be Islamic Development Bank President Ahmed Muhammed Ali Al-Madani, Bank of Mexico President Augustin Carstens, the Central Bank of Brazil Vice President Luiz Awazu Pereira Da Silva and Central Bank of India Deputy Governor Subir Vithal Gokarn.
