Speaking to the Anatolia news agency, THY’s director in Brazil, Atagün Kutluyüksel, said the national air carrier was planning to increase the number of flights to Sao Paulo in January. “We will raise our flights to four and send larger planes to Brazil,” he said, adding that THY aims to operate flights to Sao Paulo every day and hoped to achieve this goal within two or three years. THY launched flights to Sao Paulo three times a week on April 5, 2009, as part of its South American project. Elaborating on THY’s role as an intermediary enabling Turkey and Brazil to get to know each other better, Kutluyüksel said it has been successful so far and that the program organized for the Brazilian CEOs is a means to that end.
“We appeal to people coming for tourism and to passengers on their way to visit relatives in Lebanon and Syria, too. Another type of passenger is what we call the corporate passenger, who travels for professional reasons; thus, we organized this program for CEOs of the leading companies in Brazil, including Audi, Nestle and Mapfre,” he explained.
Brazilians constitute 70 percent of passengers of Brazil-Turkey flights, while 10 percent of passengers are Turks. 20 percent are transit passengers from other countries.
