Organizers of the Çanakkale Troia Film Festival announced on Friday that the event’s first edition would now take place in June 2011 instead of mid-September 2010.This is the second date change for the festival, which was initially planned for July 2010 but later postponed to mid-September -- due to organizers’ aims of widespread appeal.
“In accordance with the rapidly changing trends in Turkey and its movie industry, we decided to move our festival to another date because of a crowded schedule during September,” the organizing committee said in a written statement, citing the Ramadan holiday that falls this year on Sept. 9-11 and next Sunday’s critical referendum as well as two major film festivals in Adana and Antalya beginning in late September and early October, respectively, as reasons for the change of plans.
“A more mature and splendid film festival” is now slated for June 4-9, 2011, “with a new logo, a new executive board and new regulations,” the statement said. A press conference announcing the new executive committee and regulations will be held this month, the statement added.
