Austria's Korkmaz to miss Kazakhstan game

5 September 2010 / AP, VIENNA
Austria forward Ümit Korkmaz has been hospitalized with a viral infection and will miss Tuesday's 2012 European Championship qualifier against Kazakhstan.

The Austrian football federation said Saturday that Korkmaz suffered from fever, sickness and a painful backbone and that he will remain in hospital to be monitored.

Austria coach Dietmar Constantini did not call up a replacement and was expected to bring on Veli Kavlak or Jakob Jantscher as a left winger.

Austria plays Kazakhstan in Group A, which also includes Germany, Belgium, Turkey and Azerbaijan.
