Erdoğan in Diyarbakır

4 September 2010 / TAHA AKYOL MILLIYET ,
I followed Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s referendum rally in Ağrı on TV. He spoke there the same way as he spoke in Edirne. He said he would speak the same way in Diyarbakır as well on Friday.
If Erdoğan makes a speech in Diyarbakır that convinces the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) to end its boycott and vote “yes” in the referendum, this would have consequences in the country’s west. Thanks to advanced mass media, it is no longer possible for politicians to speak this way here and that way there. Erdoğan is certainly a prime minister who has made mention of the Kurdish problem and launched an initiative to resolve it. He will certainly mention his views about this problem during his visit to Diyarbakır. I hope this visit will be successful. I hope he lowers the political tension in the country.
