17 Turkish sailors saved from sinking ship by Romania

2 September 2010 / AP, BUCHAREST, ROMANIA
Authorities say Romania saved 17 Turkish sailors whose ship was sinking off the Black Sea shore. Ion Voicu, an official with a government sea rescue agency, says the sailors were saved early Wednesday.
The sailors requested help after their ship, which was carrying scrap metal, started leaning dangerously on one side. Voicu says authorities tried to help straighten the vessel, but it sank by Wednesday afternoon. The ship, Medi, had sailed from the Romanian port of Constanta overnight after being loaded.
