Everton’s Yobo joins Fenerbahçe

2 September 2010 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
Nigerian defender Joseph Yobo has joined Spor Toto Super League side Fenerbahçe on loan from England’s Everton. Yobo arrived to İstanbul on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters at the İstanbul Atatürk Airport, the Nigerian defender said he chose to join Fenerbahçe because the team has big goals. He also said he is happy and excited to be part of the team.Yobo and Fenerbahçe’s Emre Belözoğlu were involved in an investigation over allegations of racism when the two were playing in England’s Premiere League in 2007. Belözoğlu allegedly insulted three Everton players, including Yobo, using racist words while playing for Newcastle United. The Turkish player was later acquitted when Yobo contested the allegations against Belözoğlu. Yobo reportedly left İstanbul on Wednesday afternoon after undergoing health checks to join the Nigerian national football team camp.
