Turkish publishers headed for Moscow fair

31 August 2010 / TODAY’S ZAMAN WITH WIRES, İSTANBUL
Turkish literature, after achieving the rare tribute of being in the limelight as the guest of honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair two years ago, is continuing its international endeavors with new international book fairs.
Another such event will come this week when the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism will open a Turkish pavilion at the Moscow International Book Fair. The Moscow gathering for the international publishing industry will mark its 23rd year starting tomorrow and will feature Belarus as its guest of honor. The Turkish publishing industry will be represented with an approximately 1,000-title collection to be showcased on a 60-square-meter pavilion at the fair, which will wrap up on Sept. 6.

The books to be showcased at the fair will later be donated to several libraries in Russia as part of a Culture Ministry initiative called “A Turkey Bookcase for Each Country,” the Anatolia news agency reported over the weekend. The Turkish delegation will also have talks with Russian literary translators working as part of the ministry’s translation subvention project, TEDA, in order to improve the rate of translation of Turkish works into Russian, Anatolia reported. Thirteen Turkish literary works have been translated into Russian as part of TEDA so far.
