Safranbolu, the picturesque Black Sea town famous for its rural architecture, is gearing up for the 11th edition of its annual Altın Safran (Golden Saffron) International Documentary Film Festival next month.
The three-day festival, scheduled for Sept. 24-26, will mark its 11th year under the main theme “cultural heritage and preservation,” based on the fact that Safranbolu, as one of the most well-preserved towns in Turkey, is listed by UNESCO among World Heritage sites.The festival features a documentary film competition and a photo contest, both of which are open for professional and amateur entrants. Documentaries produced in the past four years are eligible for competition. Awards in the professional category are TL 3,500 for the winner, TL 3,000 for the runner up and TL 2,500 for third place. Showings will be held at temporary open-air theaters to be erected across the town throughout the festival, as well as at the Süha Arın Square and at the cultural center.
