MÜSİAD seeks to bring together 3,000 businesspeople in İstanbul

31 July 2010 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
The Independent Industrialists and Busi-nessmen’s Association (MÜSİAD) expects to attract more than 3,000 businesspeople from 65 countries in an international event to be held Oct. 6-17.

The 13th MÜSİAD International Fair and 14th International Business Forum (IBF) will be themed around “the importance of technology in the development of Islamic countries.” The main discussion topics of the event are scheduled to be relations between technology and growth, science and technology as a direct factor influencing production, and the targets that Islamic countries should set in this regard.

MÜSİAD President Ömer Cihad Vardan briefed reporters about both the forum and fair yesterday at a press conference. “We expect more than 3,000 businesspeople from 65 countries to attend the event, which will for the first time be held at the Haliç Congress Center,” Vardan said. As an official business forum of the Economic and Commercial Cooperation Permanent Committee (İSEDAK), the IBF congress will be held in parallel with at least four other international meetings, including the İSEDAK meeting and the Association of Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASCAME) meeting.

In 2008, the fair was attended by 2,224 businesspeople, 554 firms and 150,000 visitors, Vardan said. A survey conducted during this meeting showed that 48 percent of participants had signed a business deal at the event, he said.
