Figures for the first half of 2010 have shown huge imbalances in province-by-province exports. According to numbers provided by the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TİM) on Thursday, İstanbul, Turkey’s biggest city and main commercial hub, earned the most from exports in the first six months of 2010 with $24.6 billion, highlighting a growing gap between different regions in the country.
Bursa and Kocaeli followed İstanbul, with $5.6 billion and $4.1 billion, respectively, and the three provinces in the Marmara region claimed a combined 64.6 percent of overall exports in the country with $34.46 billion out of $53.34 billion. The southeastern province of Tunceli was at the bottom of the list, earning only $1,800 from sales abroad in the first half of the year.
