Relations with Brussels to grow during Belgium presidency, Bağış says

22 July 2010 / THE ANATOLIA NEWS AGENCY, ANKARA
Turkish State Minister and Chief Negotiator for EU talks, Egemen Bağış, said Wednesday Ankara's relations with Brussels were expected to grow during the Belgian Presidency.

Speaking at the national day reception of Belgium at the Belgian Embassy in Ankara, Bağış said that Turkey's expectation from Belgium was not the opening of a new chapter to negotiations.

Our greatest expectation from Brussels is visa liberalization for Turkish citizens. We need to work with the EU countries so that the visa requirement from Turkish citizens ends. We expect to see steps taken on this matter during the Belgian Presidency, Bağış said.

Touching on the recent constitutional amendments in Turkey, Bağış said that Turkey needed a Constitution in EU standards.

All individuals living in Turkey must have a Constitution that embraces freedom and democracy. September 12, 2010, the day of a referendum on constitutional amendments in Turkey, will be a turning point in Turkey's EU history, Bağış also said.
