Yahya Kaakeh, a self-declared Syrian peace envoy and professor at a Syrian university who is traveling around Turkey under the slogan “Peace and Love,” arrived in the southeastern province of Şanlıurfa by bicycle on Tuesday.
Starting his journey in the Syrian city of Aleppo, Kaakeh entered Turkey by passing through the Habur border gate. As soon as he arrived in Şanlıurfa, he visited the city’s governor’s office. Kaakeh was welcomed by Şanlıurfa’s Deputy Governor Şaban Erdoğan, who he briefed on his journey. Noting that he has been interested in bicycles for many years, Kaakeh said he had traveled to numerous countries throughout the world thanks to his passion for bicycling. Underlining that Turkey is an important country, Kaakeh pointed out that he is very proud to have visited Turkey.

Erdoğan, who gifted a book series on Şanlıurfa’s culture to Kaakeh, appreciated his efforts to travel around the country in support of Syrian-Turkish friendship, underlining that Şanlıurfa is always ready to provide any support Kaakeh needs for his journey.

Şanlıurfa locals showed great interest in Kaakeh, who cycled around the streets of Şanlıurfa. Kaakeh will next go to other southeastern provinces in Turkey, such as Diyarbakır and Van, as soon as he finishes his visit in Şanlıurfa.
