Influential composer Semli Andak laid to rest in İstanbul

Semli Andak, a master music critic and an influential composer, was laid to rest in Zincirlikuyu Cemetery on Saturday following a funeral at İstanbul’s Teşvikiye Mosque.

In addition to his wife, Nermin Andak, Republican People’s Party (CHP) Provincial Branch Chairman Berhan Şimşek, several celebrities including Erol Evgin, Bedri Baykam, Ayşegül Aldinç and Halit Kıvanç and important figures from the art community and business world attended the funeral.

The composer of around 800 songs, Andak represented Turkey in several international competitions as both a songwriter and a jury member. He received numerous international awards in music competitions abroad, among them the Golden Orfe award in Bulgaria in 1969 and 1970 and the Spring Festival in Israel in 1977. He also took part in the 1983 edition of the Viña del Mar International Song Festival in Chile, the World Song Contest in Los Angeles in 1984 and Medifest in Italy in 1985, according to the Anatolia news agency.
