Three forest fires that broke out in the southwestern provinces of Muğla, Isparta and Aydın were extinguished without any major damage on Thursday.
The first fire erupted near Muğla’s famous holiday resort town of Bodrum; the cause is still unknown. Firefighting teams from the Turgutreis, Bodrum, Ortakent and Bitez municipalities rushed to the scene and managed to put it out quickly, despite the difficulty caused by the rocky terrain.

Six hectares of maquis shrubland were destroyed as a result of a wildfire in Isparta’s Eğirdir district. Authorities believe that broken pieces of glass are responsible for sparking the flame that caused the blaze near the village of Tepeli. It was quickly extinguished by two planes and one helicopter sent by the Antalya Forestry Regional Directorate. The village’s muhtar (local official), İrfan Çatal, said he heard an explosion while working in the fields and saw the maquis shrubland burning. “The fire spread fast with the wind. I called the fire department and the governor’s office. They arrived in 15 minutes,” he said.

A third wildfire that broke out, also in maquis shrubland, in Aydın’s Kuşadası district was extinguished without spreading. The reason for the fire is not yet known. Firefighting teams from the Kuşadası and Söke municipalities helped extinguish the flames.
