According to data from the Automotive Distributors’ Association (ODD), 186,305 sedans were sold in the January-June period of this year in Turkey, registering a 1.8 percent drop over the same period of last year. June, however, saw 2.6 percent more sedans sold over one year earlier. The data revealed that 42,086 sedans were sold last month.
The European market enjoyed a slight increase in sedan sales in the first six months. A total of 7.5 million sedans were sold in all of Europe in this period, 0.6 percent more compared to one year ago. With 43.8 percent, Hungary suffered the greatest drop during this period, followed by Bulgaria and Romania, which posted declines of 43.2 and 41.5 percent, respectively.
Iceland registered the highest increase in the number of sedans sold in the first half, year-on-year. Portugal and Norway followed with 57.7 and 48.4 percent, respectively.
The European auto industry sold fewer sedans in June, however. A total of 1.38 million sedans were sold in the sixth month of the year, a figure 6.2 percent lower than that of June 2009. The sharpest decline was experienced by Slovakia, with 40.6 percent. Debt-ridden Greece came in second with a year-on-year drop of 39.3 percent.
With these figures, Turkey ranked eighth in the number of sedans sold both in June and the first half among all European countries.
