A tanker truck filled with gasoline collided with three cars in Balıkesir’s Ayvalık district on Monday. One of the cars, driven by Mümin Varol, caught fire and three vehicle occupants died in the ensuing conflagration. Passengers in the two other cars involved in the accident were slightly injured. The truck’s driver, Tuncay Kavçak, was detained by gendarmes following the incident. In an accident in Tekirdağ on Tuesday involving four cars, one person was killed and nine others were injured when a car collided with another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. A third car stopped suddenly after seeing the incident and was rear-ended by a fourth. A passenger train collided with a car in Bilecik’s Bozüyük district on Tuesday. The driver of the car, Eser Esen, died at Bozüyük State Hospital despite doctors’ efforts.
In two accidents in Bornova and Manisa’s Turgutlu district on Monday, one person died and another was wounded. A truck in Bornova ran over 74-year-old Melike Girgin as she was crossing the road, while a police car collided with a car in Turgutlu, injuring the officer driving the police car. In an accident in Mersin on Tuesday, an unlicensed driver was injured when his truck overturned. İlker Oturum, 22, was extricated from the truck by civil defense teams. The man was taken to Mersin State Hospital. In two separate accidents in Kocaeli on Tuesday, two people were killed and two others were injured.
Additionally, on Monday five people were killed and more than 40 were injured in other accidents in Eskişehir, Edirne, Yozgat, Sakarya, Kars, Konya, Kahramanmaraş and İstanbul.
