Speaking at his party’s parliamentary group meeting yesterday, the CHP leader called the package a means for the government to bring a “civilian dictatorship.” Noting that the government is not sincere in the changes, he said: “The nation should not be taken in by the AK Party’s insincere policies. This government is not bringing a constitution that brings more freedom and expands human rights. On the contrary, it rescinds some rights.
So we should head to the ballot boxes and say ‘no’,” he added.
Kılıçdaroğlu also criticized Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, saying the prime minister has failed to remove the parliamentary immunity of deputies, although he had pledged to do so. “He had said that he was planning to remove immunity in the first year of his rule. Many years have passed. If a prime minister takes refuge in parliamentary immunity, he must have something he cannot give an accounting for. There is no need for a prime minister to lead the country if he is afraid of giving an accounting to the public. This government loves referenda. Then come and ask the nation whether parliamentary immunity should be removed or not. The esteemed president cannot dare to do this. What does this mean? The prime minister does not have faith in the nation,” he added.
