The girl, Fatma Demir, was shot in the head when a group of people, whose identities have not yet been determined, began shooting in celebration of the ceremony in the town of Edikli. Fatma was taken to Niğde State Hospital by ambulance immediately following the incident. Despite doctors’ efforts the girl did not survive. She was buried in Edikli following an autopsy by the Adana Council of Forensic Medicine (ATK). The public prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the incident.Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, a high school student was injured as two men opened fire on their ex-brother-in-law in the street in Kocaeli’s Çayırova District on Monday. The girl, H.P., was waiting for her grandmother on the same street when she was hit. H.P. was hit in the head by three stray bullets. Police rushed to the scene and took the girl to Farabi State Hospital. H.P. is reported to be in stable condition.
In another unrelated incident, late on Sunday a 7-year-old boy was injured when a man, Necmettin C., began firing his gun at random after an argument with his father in the Black Sea province of Samsun, the Habertürk daily reported. Eyewitnesses said Necmettin C. had a dispute with his father at about 9.30 p.m. and then began to fire his gun. Two bullets hit a parked car on the street, and another hit Ahmet Bengihan Okuyucu in the head. Okuyucu’s parents took him to Samsun Mehmet Aydın Teaching and Research Hospital, and following a three-hour operation the boy was brought to the intensive care unit. Ahmet is reported to be in critical condition. Meanwhile, the suspect was detained by Samsun police and was found to be intoxicated.
