The number of lives lost due to last week’s roadside bombing in İstanbul’s Halkalı district has risen to six following the death of Spc. Sgt. Mehmet Boşnak, who was seriously wounded by the explosion last week. Boşnak was pronounced brain dead late Saturday and his heart stopped yesterday.

Five people, including the daughter of an army officer, were killed on Tuesday in a roadside bomb attack on a civilian bus transporting military personnel in İstanbul. With the news about Boşnak from the Bakırköy Dr. Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital, the death toll from the terrorist attack increased to six. The Kurdistan Freedom Falcons (TAK), an offshoot of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), claimed responsibility for the deadly attack. So far 19 people have been apprehended in connection with the explosion but the assailant responsible for detonating the bomb, who has been identified, is still at large.

Boşnak’s body was first taken to İstanbul Council of Forensic Medicine (ATK) and then was brought to the İstanbul Gendarmerie Command for an official ceremony. He is expected to be laid to rest today in his hometown in the northern province of Samsun.
