What colors are in style this season?
Men’s clothing designer Faruk Saraç says the colors blue and white and earth tones have taken over this summer. According Saraç, black has been replaced with navy. But this is only for traditional-style clothes. In sporty outfits, lighter-tone blues are more common. Fashion designer Hatice Gökçe says: “The season we are in is a season of contrasts. White, navy and blue are the season’s most important colors. Interestingly, we also see neon greens on men’s T-shirts. Pink, coral, light blue and light brown are also used frequently in men’s clothes.” Backing up what Saraç and Gökçe said, Sarar CEO Emre Sarar says: “In addition to black and white, which always appeals to everyone, we see blue tones stand out, especially in jackets. You can find the ‘nautical’ theme and blue and white colors, especially in knitwear.”
US Polo Assn. designer Alev Ciliv says that in addition to ocean colors, turquoise and water tones -- light colors -- are seen on athletic clothing.
Sarar notes that some men continue to wear black even though the summer season is here. Black is followed by the colors gray and metallic, light earth tones, beige and ecru in popularity. As for Tiffany designer Canan Banarlı, she says “Most of our male customers prefer items that are black, white and stone-colored.”
Season of quality and elegant designs
Hatice Gökçe: This season is going to be a comfortable one for men, with quality and elegant designs. Shirts made with a blend of cotton, linen and silk will keep you cool during the summer. Fitted trousers and narrow-cut suits offer a striking new look. In pants, cuffs are leaving their place to regular hems. Among the stylish clothes for men are thin knitwear and cardigans. Light-colored trench coats are also among men’s favorites. This year we are going to see small and repetitive designs on ties as well as panel designs.
Shirts with small and straight collars can be completed with thin ties.
Faruk Saraç (fashion designer): This year three-buttoned suits have replaced two-buttoned suits. In jackets, half-lining and linens dominate and cottons are popular as well. Pants had single pleats until this summer, but now they have no pleats. While collars used to be wider, they are now narrower, smaller and more perpendicular. Combining shirts with this kind of collar with narrow ties is very stylish in 2010.
Light and fitted jackets are very popular
Pierre Cardin design team: Unlined and wrinkled fabrics are big this summer. With sporty jackets, thinner material is used. Embroidered emblems are preferred on jackets. Shirts that have more prints and details are a hot item this season. In pants, wide washed chino trousers are a summer classic. Pants with contrast-colored stitches and leather details are also a main part of the season. Traditional jackets that are fitted on the body are very preferred. Unlined jackets and thin fabrics are very popular. We also innovated jacket and shirts for the spring summer season. The point at which the jacket’s collar bends backward, known as the “rover line,” was brought down in just about all the styles. Striped designs and prints are popular in shirts.
Fitted but comfortable suits stand out
Emre Sarar: Suits and jackets made with fitted but comfortable cuts and light fabrics are a must-have. In addition to diamond and stripe-patterned classic business shirts, solid colors enable you to make elegant and easy combinations. Ties are much thinner this season. In sporty models, striped patterns, plaid and cotton jackets stand out.
Pockets spice up athletic clothes
Canan Banarlı: This year, chino pants instead of cargo pants are more popular. Different pocket details make clothing look different. In shirts, plaid designs are very popular. Emblems on striped and solid shirts give a more classic look.
