Travelers to pay less for passports with Cabinet decision

21 June 2010 / TODAY’S ZAMAN WITH WIRES, İSTANBUL
A Cabinet decision to reduce the fees for passports has been published in the Official Gazette, a move that promises to lighten the load on Turkish travelers.
The price reduction includes passports issued by Turkish consular bodies. Passports with terms up to six months have fallen to TL 65 from TL 126.05; one-year passports have fallen in price from TL 180.15 to TL 95; two-year passports have dropped from TL 304 to TL 155; three-year passports are now TL 220 instead of TL 424; and passports with terms of over three years now cost TL 310 instead of TL 616.

Key to the reduction is a drop in the passport fee for papers and documents of value, from TL 130 to TL 50. The Finance Ministry’s “Valuable Documents General Bulletin” and “Fees Law General Bulletin” were published in Sunday’s edition of the Official Gazette. The changes add an addendum to Law No. 210 and amend Law No. 5281 to change passport fees within the context of valuable documents and papers to TL 50, effective yesterday.

Under the new regime, the coefficients used in determining passport fees at Turkish consular agencies that receive passport fees in a foreign currency have also been recalculated. The TL 0.40 coefficient used by consular agencies in calculating fees for passports, visas, residence permits and work permits for foreigners has been changed to TL 0.75 as of Sunday.
