President Abdullah Gül attended the graduation ceremony at Fatih University, a private university in Turkey, held at the Haliç Congress Center in İstanbul on Saturday.
Sharing the excitement of thousands of students and parents, Gül handed out awards to the top-scoring students in each department, conveying his best wishes for all students as they serve the future of Turkey following the completion of their education.

Speaking at the event, Gül noted that private or foundation universities have contributed to the high quality of education in Turkey’s institutions of higher learning. Noting that Fatih University has hosted a large number of foreign students from various countries around the world, Gül stated that hosting foreign students is very good for a university. Gül also noted that Fatih University can be a good example for Turkey’s other universities in its outreach to multinational students.

Fatih University Rector Şerif Ali Tekalan noted that Fatih University, which started its educational journey with 600 students, currently has 12,000 students, noting that they will accept 2,500 students for their new academic year.

The graduation ceremony ended with the new alumni tossing their mortarboards in the air together.
