The meteorology bureau warned people against flash floods that may occur due to a heavy storm expected to hit Kocaeli, Sakarya, Yalova, Balıkesir, Bursa, Bilecik, Manisa, Uşak, Kütahya, Zonguldak, Bolu, Düzce, Eskişehir, Ankara and İstanbul, particularly on the Anatolian side, on Wednesday. The heavy rain that has lasted since Sunday is expected to die down on Thursday.
Speaking to the Anatolia news agency on Wednesday, State Meteorology Bureau İstanbul Regional Director Mustafa Yıldırım noted that temperatures would return to normal seasonal levels at the weekend throughout the country.

Torrential rain caused disruptions early on Tuesday morning in İstanbul, surprising locals as the downpour, which started over the weekend, increased in intensity. Sunday’s rainy weather has spread across most of Turkey over the last few days, and temperatures have fallen by six to eight degrees in many parts of the country, including İstanbul.
A coast guard team has joined the search efforts along with a rescue team that includes municipal workers, firefighters and police. The teams are searching the Kurbağalıdere stream in Kadıköy on the Anatolian side of İstanbul where the janitor was swept away by the flood.
Macit’s brother Murat has acknowledged that his sibling could be dead due to the lack of information thus far. “Mevlüt has three children. We have all been depressed for two days because there has been no sign of him. We assume that Mevlüt may be dead; however, our greatest hope is that the search will be concluded as soon as possible and that we will find out what has happened,” Murat Macit said.

A tender will be held on June 24 in İstanbul for work to be carried out to prevent the Kurbağalıdere stream from flooding in the future, according to a written statement by the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality on Wednesday. Noting that the heavy rain which started at the weekend had caused many streams to overflow, the statement reported that the janitor who was swept away in Tuesday’s flooding is still missing. The statement said that İstanbul’s latest heavy rain had revealed that the Kurbağalıdere stream, which is 67,680 meters long in total, needs urgent attention.
