Turkey's finance minister says more investments to help solve unemployment

4 June 2010 / THE ANATOLIA NEWS AGENCY, AMSTERDAM
The Turkish finance minister said on Friday that more investments in Turkey would mean more labor.

Turkey's Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek said more investments in Turkey would mean more business and labor, which would help solution of unemployment problem.

"European investors are interested in Turkey, and therefore we are travelling many countries to tell investors that Turkey is a significant political and economic actor," Şimşek told reporters after participating in an economy meeting in Amsterdam.

The PWC and Dutch Businessmen's Federation organized a meeting on Turkey's economy and investments in Turkey in the Dutch capital.

Şimşek said every one could see Turkey's performance and future potential if they did not have a political, short-term or populist perspective.

On Turkey's European Union (EU) membership bid, Şimşek said he believed that Europe would invite Turkey one day if Turkey continued to make reforms.

Şimşek also said Turkey aimed to broaden fundamental rights and freedoms, and to improve democracy, just because Turkish citizens deserved that, not for EU membership.
