Two ambulance planes depart for Israel to bring back wounded Turks
A brain surgeon, a cardiothoracic surgeon, two anesthetists, a general surgeon and several other health personnel are aboard the planes that departed from Ankara's Esenboğa Airport, officials said.
Upon their arrival in Israel, the medical team will assess the health conditions of the wounded and then bring them back to Turkey.
No announcement was made regarding the exact time of arrival of the planes in Turkey.
The names of the 5 wounded Turks are listed as Uğur Süleyman Söylemez, Osman Kurt, Çelebi Bozan, Ahmet Ayhan Beker and Mehmet Ali Zeybek.
On May 31, an Israeli raid on the convoy of ships with more than 600 activists on board killed 9 people and injured nearly 30 others. Preliminary statements had said 4 of the dead were Turks. It was later revealed that 8 of the 9 people who died in the attack were Turkish citizens.
Three Turkish Airlines (THY) planes, carrying 466 activists as well as bodies of 9 people that were killed in the Israeli raid, landed in İstanbul early on Thursday.
Prior to that, 19 more wounded activists, one of them an Irish citizen, were also brought to Ankara with ambulance planes.
