No word from journalists on humanitarian aid ship

Kürşat Bayhan
1 June 2010 / TODAY'S ZAMAN WITH WIRES, İSTANBUL
The fate of the journalists, including Today’s Zaman’s Kürşat Bayhan, aboard the Mavi Marmara, one of the six ships in the Gaza-bound humanitarian aid flotilla attacked by Israeli forces on Monday, was unknown even as of late afternoon, with Israeli officials not releasing a complete list of the individuals killed, wounded or arrested. Israeli commandos stormed a flotilla of ships carrying activists and aid supplies to Gaza during the early hours of Monday.
Sixteen were reported dead and several dozen injured, with no full list of names of the dead and the injured yet disclosed by Israeli officials. The Israeli military has also censored the distribution of information regarding the whereabouts of the passengers of the ship and jammed cell phone and Internet communications from the ship. The families and colleagues of dozens of journalists remain concerned by Israel’s refusal to provide information. Hopes rose a bit when reports said that none of the 16 dead were journalists, but the report has not been confirmed.
