The Ottoman Palace objects are visiting the Palace of Czardom in the exhibition, which is being organized with the support of the İstanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture (ECOC) coordination agency, the Topkapı Palace Museum and the Kremlin Palace Museum.State Minister Hayati Yazıcı attended the inauguration of the exhibition titled, “Topkapı Palace Treasures at the Kremlin Palace” in Moscow.
Before the inauguration, Yazıcı met with Turkish and Russian journalists, telling them that the İstanbul 2010 ECOC agency was working to integrate İstanbul with Europe and the entire world through culture and arts activities.
Secretary- general of ECOC Yılmaz Kurt said İstanbul would make a contribution through this exhibition to the developing relations between Turkey and Russia. The exhibition includes 106 objects containing pieces about the symbols, personal belongings and palace lives of the Ottoman sultans. The show will remain open until Aug. 15.
Topkapı Palace, which was the official residence of the Ottoman sultans from Mehmet the Conqueror in the 1400s until Sultan Abdulmecid in the 19th century, was used as the center of the state administration, education and art of the empire for nearly 400 years.
The palace was constructed between 1460 and 1478 on a field measuring approximately 700,000 square meters at the site of the Byzantine acropolis after the conquest of Istanbul by Mehmet the Conqueror. An exhibition that was opened at the Topkapı Palace earlier displaying the treasures of the Kremlin Palace can be seen until June 7.
