The recent arrival of some of the world’s leading technology stores to Turkey has led to cutthroat competition in the Turkish technology retail market, with companies fighting to offer the most attractive promotions and discounts.
New retail technology products stores have mushroomed all across the country, particularly in relatively larger provinces. This development means companies are reaching out to more customers than before. Online sales have also become popular among an increasing number of customers. The retail chains are also entering this field in an attempt to attract more customers than they could through their stores. Speaking to the Anatolia news agency, Teknosa General Manager Mehmet Nane says the technology products market is “among the fastest growing markets in Turkey, a unique position.” Nane says they expect the sector to enjoy double-digit growth in 2010 and that Teknosa plans to open new stores before the end of the year.According to Vatan Computer General Manager Hasan Vatan, the market will eventually go through a transformation, following which local firms will emerge relatively more securely positioned, while some of the five current foreign companies will leave the market. Media Markt and Saturn Turkey CEO Nuri Topatan thinks more new players will enter the market in 2010 and that this could be to the advantage of the Turkish customers.
