President Abdullah Gül on Tuesday thanked the Turkish Confederation of Businessmen and Industrialists (TUSKON) for their contributions to helping increase Turkey’s exports.

Receiving the newly elected TUSKON board at the Çankaya presidential palace yesterday, Gül said the confederation’s efforts to diversify Turkey’s export markets benefitted relations with different countries. Also mentioning TUSKON’s role as a bridge that opens global markets for Turkish businesses, the president said the state also is committed to continuing to encourage such efforts.

Speaking to Today’s Zaman following the meeting with Gül, TUSKON Chairman Rızanur Meral said the president has underlined the importance of economic stability for Turkey’s future. “He reiterated that a healthy democracy and a strong economy are interdependent,” Meral added.
