Speaking to reporters, Vardan recalled that world markets are expected to suffer from high unemployment rates for some time to come and that Turkey needs to take necessary measures ahead of time before the problem grows worse. “We could see a slight recovery in employment figures in Turkey. But this is not enough, and it is clear that the markets have not yet completely left behind the adverse impacts of 2009’s global financial crisis,” he explained.
Underlining that unemployment negatively affects all segments of society, the MÜSİAD head suggested that the government intensify its quest to implement a program “which could boost morale and confidence in the markets.” Recalling that Turkey has taken critical steps to fend off problems stemming from last year’s crisis, Vardan said such commitment should continue but that this time the main focus should be on employment.
Making mention of efforts by the Turkish Employment Organization (İŞKUR), Vardan said the organization should be supported. İŞKUR had earlier implemented initiatives to address the problem with vocational training programs in cooperation with local administrations and private firms.
