Obama says next entrepreneurship summit will be held in Turkey

28 April 2010 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
US President Barack Obama has welcomed Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s recent offer to host the next Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship, the first of which ended on Tuesday in Washington, D.C.

Erdoğan had earlier sent a letter to Obama, offering to hold a second edition of the summit in Turkey.

In his address at the Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship in Washington, D.C., on Monday, Obama said: “Tonight, I am pleased to announce that Prime Minister Erdoğan has agreed to host the 2nd Entrepreneurship Summit next year in Turkey. And so I thank the prime minister and the people and private sector leaders of Turkey for helping to sustain the momentum that we will unleash this week.”

“We will bring business and social entrepreneurs from Muslim-majority countries to the US and send their American counterparts to learn from your countries,” Obama said. The US president said he was committed to “fulfilling his commitment in Cairo to deepen ties between business leaders, foundations and entrepreneurs in the United States and Muslim communities around the world.”

In his visit to the Egyptian capital last June, Obama announced the US would host a summit on entrepreneurship. The Presidential Summit on Entrepreneurship in Washington brought together more than 275 participants from over 50 countries around the world, including Morocco, Indonesia, Uganda, Kazakhstan, France and India.
