Turkish Airlines (THY) has started a new service on its İstanbul-New York flights to attract discerning customers to its business and first-class sections.

The flagship carrier of the Turkish civil aviation sector is employing professional chefs, or “flying chefs,” as the company prefers to call them, to cook and serve a variety of foods freshly prepared for its special customers instead of presenting them with à la carte menus.

In a written statement on Monday, THY publicized the launch its “flying chef” program with its onboard catering subsidiary Turkish Do&Co. The statement read that after a period of testing, THY has decided to make the new service permanent. The “flying chef” program, which is being implemented for the first time in the world by THY, will be only be available on long-haul flights, and the program will also feature on direct flights to Chicago and Tokyo in the near future.

“With the program, the flying chefs will pay meticulous attention to every detail of the meals, helping the cabin crew to serve the dishes in the most professional way, and thus the company will offer its customers the quality of a luxury restaurant over the clouds. With the aim of making long-distance air travel a more enjoyable experience for our passengers with the meals prepared by professional chefs using only the highest quality and freshest ingredients, THY is creating an unforgettable travel experience for its customers.” the statement said.
