A prosecutor demanded a two-year prison sentence on Friday for Turkish pop star Tarkan Tevetoğlu, who was detained in an anti-drug operation along with several other Turkish celebrities nearly two months ago.

Cracking down on drug dealers in the city, İstanbul narcotics officers seized notebooks from a number of dealers during the course of an ongoing narcotics investigation and found many names and addresses. The police obtained search warrants and raided the addresses listed, including Tarkan’s villa in the Ömerli district, detaining a number of entertainers and three businessmen. The police seized 12.5 grams of cannabis at Tarkan’s villa. Among the 10 people detained, two were allegedly involved in dealing drugs while eight others only used drugs.

The indictment against Tarkan and other celebrities was completed. If the judge accepts the indictment, Tarkan will be tried by a court in Beşiktaş.

Tevetoğlu, popularly known as Tarkan, is a World Music Award-winning German-born Turkish pop singer. Tarkan has been known for the use of sexual and romantic themes in his work and has been nicknamed the “Prince of Pop” by the media.
