Recovering rapidly from the global economic downturn, the Turkish textile sector aims to boost exports with the 3rd İstanbul Fashion, Textile and Ready-to-Wear Conference, which is expected to earn the sector $600 to $700 million in exports.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Turkish Clothing Industrialists Association (TGSD) President Cem Negrin briefed those present about the approaching conference, whose third edition is scheduled to take place on May 6-7. The event will be attended by large buying groups from overseas which together purchase goods worth $7-8 billion from Turkey each year, Negrin said. He underlined that if these groups conclude deals worth up to only 10 percent of their total businesses with Turkish suppliers, this would create an export volume of $600 to $700 million. “Last year 700 business talks took place between 120 producers and 30 buying groups. This year our target is to hold 1,500 talks between 200 producers, 40 foreign buying groups and 10 local brands,” he said.

Negrin predicted the event would pave the way for a trade volume in the millions of dollars between the attending firms. During the event, the “B2B” (business-to-business) system will also be available to help participating companies get to know each other better, Negrin stated.
