Doğan’s health fine, according to GATA

Çetin Doğan
14 April 2010 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
A recent medical report from doctors at the Gülhane Military Academy of Medicine (GATA) states that retired Gen. Çetin Doğan, the alleged author of the Sledgehammer coup plot, has no serious health problems in light of an MRI, electromyography and blood and other tests run at the hospital.

Doğan, a suspect in the Sledgehammer investigation, was released by Judge Hakim Oktay Kuban despite the prosecution’s call for his arrest earlier this month, after which he was hospitalized at GATA. His lawyer initially said Doğan was suffering from a herniated disc and numbness in his legs and was hospitalized in the neurology department of the hospital as per the recommendation of Dr. Col. Mehmet Saraçoğlu. Doğan also turned down surgery for his herniated disc, leading to comments that his hospitalization could be an attempt to evade the legal process in the Sledgehammer coup investigation.

The report, published yesterday in the Star daily, is dated April 8. The report says no problems were detected in the tests. According to the lab test results appearing in Star, Doğan’s cholesterol and triglyceride levels were slightly elevated. A lumbar puncture and neck angiography also revealed no problems.
