Andre Greipel wins stage 2 in Presidential Tour

German cyclist Andre Greipel won the 181-kilometer Kuşadası-Turgutreis stage of the 46th Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey on Monday. Greipel, of the HTC-Columbia team, also won the 5.8-kilometer prologue stage of the tour on Sunday.
 Italian Angelo Furlan of the Lampre team finished second in Monday’s stage, while Claudio Cucinotta of Italy’s De Rosa was third and Italian Mattia Gavazzi fourth.

A total of 111 sportsmen from 15 teams, including the Turkish national cycling team, participated in the stage between the coastal towns of Kuşadası and Bodrum.

As part of the 46th Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey, the cyclists will also take part in the Bodrum-Marmaris (166 kilometers), Marmaris-Pamukkale (209 kilometers), Denizli-Fethiye (221 kilometers), Fethiye-Finike (194 kilometers), Finike-Antalya (114 kilometers) and Antalya-Alanya (166 kilometers) stages.

The 1,257-kilometer race kicked off from İstanbul’s Sultanahmet Square on Sunday and was officially started by Turkish State Minister for Sports Faruk Ozak and Pat McQuaid, the president of the Union Cycliste Internationale.

The tour is being broadcast live by the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) and Eurosport. In addition to Monday’s stage winner Greipel, Spaniard Francisco Alberdi Ventoso and Italian cyclists Francesco Chicchi and Giovanni Visconti are among those taking part this year.
