Hürriyet reaches settlement in tax fine

The Doğan Media Group’s Hürriyet Gazetecilik has reached a settlement with the Finance Ministry over a TL 22.57 million fine for alleged tax evasion.

In a written statement released on Tuesday through the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), Hürriyet Gazetecilik said that an agreement had been reached between Hürriyet Gazetecilik and the tax authorities. Accordingly, the company will pay TL 8 million for the sum of evaded taxes and penalties within a month. The amount Hürriyet will pay is estimated to rise to TL 17.2 million when late payment interest is included, the statement read. The Finance Ministry levied a fine of TL 22.57 million on the company for evading TL 22.57 million in taxes for 2005.

The Finance Ministry levied a fine of TL 3.76 billion ($2.53 billion) on Doğan Holding last year for tax irregularities during a time period covering 2005, 2006 and 2007.
