Turkish banks enjoy 11.6 pct rise in profits in February

Banks in Turkey enjoyed an 11.6 percent increase in profits in February, to reach TL 3.5 billion over the same month of 2009, the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) revealed on Monday.

According to BDDK data, Turkish banks’ assets reached TL 842.23 billion in February. Also, the banks’ total assets saw a TL 108.54 million increase over the same month of 2009. The amount of loans extended by the banks in February increased by 3.4 percent over the final month of 2009. The amount of non-performing loans also saw a 0.4 percent increase in February over the second month of 2009.

The banks’ capital adequacy figure reached 20.1 percent in February, while equities increased by 3.5 percent in February over the same month of 2009.
