Global Liman to acquire remaining stake in port

30 March 2010 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
Global Liman İşletmeleri, a Turkish port operator, announced on Monday that it would acquire the remaining 60 percent stake in Ortadoğu Antalya Liman İşletmeleri A.Ş., an Istanbul-based provider of port operating services.

With the sale, Global Liman will own the sole operating rights of Ortadoğu Antalya Liman İşletmeleri, which operates the Port of Antalya.

In a written statement to the Public Disclosure Forum (KAP) of the İstanbul Stock Exchange (İMKB) in early March, Global Liman said the firm had plans to acquire the remaining 60 percent share of the operating rights of Ortadoğu Antalya. The company announced to the İMKB on March 27 that the shareholders of Ortadoğu Antalya have agreed on the sale of the port operating rights to Global Liman.

Evaluating the sale of the operating rights, Global Liman CEO Gregory Michael Kiez said the company is satisfied with being the sole operator of the Port of Antalya, a prominent trade and tourism hub of the Mediterranean. Underlining that the increasing potential of the port offers vast opportunities for both foreign and local investors, Kiez said they expect to make Antalya one of the leading ports in Europe with new investments in the years to come.
