Wilson Center to honor Davutoğlu, Şahenk with awards

26 March 2010 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
Influential American think tank the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars will honor Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu and Doğuş Group Chairman Ferit Şahenk with “public service” and “corporate citizenship” awards, respectively, the Anatolia news agency reported on Thursday.

They will accept their awards at a dinner to be held in Turkey on June 17. This is the first time that prominent Turkish figures have received an award from the Wilson Center. The Woodrow Wilson Awards recognize leaders in government, business, science, the arts and beyond who have embraced openness, dialogue and service in confronting the issues of their day on local, national and international levels.

A statement from the Wilson Center said Davutoğlu had catalyzed the development of Turkey’s foreign relations, elevating its position in international discussions since he became the foreign minister of Turkey. Praising the achievements of Şahenk, the statement also said he had made the Doğuş Group one of Turkey’s most successful conglomerates.
