Sledgehammer extends to War Academies

A high-ranking commander from the War Academies Command was interrogated yesterday as part of an ongoing investigation into an apparent military plot to overthrow the government.
Deputy War Academies Commander Gen. Yurdaer Olcan came to the Beşiktaş Courthouse early yesterday to testify to prosecutors as part of the Balyoz (Sledgehammer) probe. His testimony was still in progress when Today’s Zaman went to print. He was also previously called by prosecutors to testify but failed to appear on grounds of health. Sledgehammer is a military plot allegedly drafted in 2003 by active duty military members to get rid of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government. It mentions a subversive plan to foment chaos in society that would eventually lead to a military takeover.
